FLOAT: A Guided Meditation for Pain or Anxiety
Duration: 21 minutes
When anxiety or pain flares, the instinct is often to fight it, tense against it, monitor it, and try to make it stop. But that resistance can reinforce the brain’s conclusion that something is wrong.
FLOAT is a five-step practice for moving over a wave with less fear and struggle:
F — Frame the signal
Recognize the brain’s protective response for what it is: a danger signal, not necessarily evidence of actual danger.
L — Loosen your grip
Release the tension in your body, attention, and effort.
O — Observe with curiosity
Notice what is happening without checking, measuring, or demanding that it change.
A — Attend to what matters
Let the sensation move in the background while you return your attention to the next meaningful thing in front of you.
T — Trust time
Remember that every wave you have experienced has eventually passed. You do not have to control exactly when this one ends.
